Introducing Ronald Wallroth, Privalgo EU’s Managing Director manning our brand-new Amsterdam office.

With over 20 years of experience in international payments working for the likes of Global Connect and ACI Worldwide, Ronald is an invaluable asset to Privalgo. His deep knowledge of business development, relationship building, and overall industry awareness are integral to our ongoing expansion to Europe.

In the latest Employee Spotlight, we spoke with Ronald about his role, his advice for anyone entering the payments business, international expansion, and why complete awareness and understanding of your field are crucial to success in rapidly changing industries.

What’s your job role and what does that entail on a daily basis?

I am managing the new Privalgo EU entity, for which we have requested an e-money license from the Dutch National Bank. Currently. We are setting up the organisation in Amsterdam, collaborating with a team of internal and external stakeholders to ensure a strong launch as soon as we receive the license.

What excites you about the payments business?

What excites me about the payment business is the international environment, the dynamic and energizing nature of the industry, the wide variety of clients, the fast-changing market, and the innovative landscape of fintech.

I’m confident that by opening up the EU market and other regions, we will outperform our 5-year growth strategy. Privalgo is a very modern, fast-adopting organization with a great team of people.

What key piece of advice would you give someone entering the payments business?

Make use of the experience and knowledge of your colleagues in different departments to gain a solid understanding of how international payments and currency exchange work.

Familiarise yourself with the key players, trends, regulations, and technologies in the industry. Given the dynamic and rapidly changing nature of this field, it’s crucial to stay informed about the latest news, updates, and advancements in fintech, blockchain, and other relevant technologies.

Who’s your biggest inspiration in the workplace and why?

Steve Jobs is a real inspiration for me, because of his visionary leadership, relentless pursuit of innovation, and ability to revolutionize multiple industries. His contributions to personal computing, music, animation, and mobile technology have had a profound impact on the way people live and work.

His story of overcoming setbacks, including being ousted from Apple and then returning to lead it to unprecedented success, embodies resilience and determination.

When and where are you happiest?

I am happiest in my interactions with people, spending time together, having good conversations, creating solutions, celebrating successes, or supporting each other during difficult times.

This can be both in my personal life, with family and friends, or in my business life with colleagues, prospects and clients.
